Moving with kids: how to move without the stress

Tips for parents: preparing kids for the move and what to do on moving day.

For kids, moving is a big change. With a little preparation, it can be an adventure too.

Tell them early

Tell the kids about the move a few weeks ahead. If you can, take them to see the new home and the neighborhood.

Give them a job

Kids can pack one box of toys themselves and decorate it. That's the first box opened in the new home.

On moving day

If possible, leave little ones with grandparents or friends. They'll be calmer, and so will you.

Their room first

In the new home, set up the kids' room first. A familiar bed and toys in place help them feel at home from the first night.
