How much does a move cost? What goes into the price and how to save
What sets the price of a move: home size, floors and elevator, disassembly and assembly, crane, packing and distance. How to get an accurate quote, and how to save.
The first question almost every customer asks is how much it will cost. There's no single price that fits every move, but a few fixed things decide it. Once you understand them, it's easier to get an accurate quote, and sometimes to save too.
What sets the price of a move
- How much stuff, not just the number of rooms: a storage room, balcony, books and big closets all add work
- Floors and elevator, at both the old home and the new one
- The distance from the truck to the door: far parking or a long path adds time
- Furniture disassembly and assembly, like sliding-door closets, hinged-door closets and electric beds
- A crane, when a large piece doesn't fit up the stairs or in the elevator
- Packing, and if you like, unpacking and organizing at the new home
- The distance between the two addresses
- Special items: a piano, safe, large fridge or aquarium
- The date: the end of the month and the days before holidays are the busiest
Moving within the city or between cities
On a move within the city, say within Ashkelon or within Beer Sheva, most of the time goes on loading and unloading. Between cities the drive is added, so it's important to set off in the morning and finish unloading the same day.
What makes a move cost more than you'd think
- A storage room or balcony that wasn't in the description or the video
- A high floor with no elevator, or a small elevator the furniture won't fit in
- A narrow street the truck can't get into
- Things that aren't packed by the time the crew arrives
How to get an accurate quote
- Send both addresses, the floors, and whether there's an elevator at each end
- Film a short video of every room, including the storage room, balcony and closets
- Write what you need: disassembly and assembly, packing, a crane
- Give your preferred date, and whether it's flexible
The fuller the details, the more accurate the quote, and there are no surprises on moving day.
How to save on your move
- Sort before you move: what doesn't move doesn't cost money
- Pack what's easy yourself, and leave the kitchen and fragile items to us
- Choose a mid-month, midweek date if you can
- Arrange the elevator and parking at both homes in advance, so the crew doesn't wait
- Take apart simple furniture yourself, and leave sliding-door closets and electric beds to us
Why not to choose on the lowest price alone
A cheap quote given over the phone without seeing the home sometimes grows on moving day. Better a quote based on a video, listing what's included, with a warranty on your belongings.
