Moving checklist: what to do a month, a week and a day before
A step-by-step moving to-do list, from a month out to moving day itself.
A move feels huge when everything lands at once. Broken into stages, it becomes a series of small tasks. Here's the list we recommend to our customers.
A month before
- Pick a moving date and send us the details on WhatsApp
- Sort the house: what moves, what gets sold, what gets donated
- Tell your landlord or building committee your move-out date
- Check the new home's elevator, parking and space for a crane if needed
Two weeks before
- Start packing things you don't use: books, off-season clothes, decor
- Label every box with its room in the new home
- Update your address with the bank, health fund and Ministry of Interior
- Arrange the transfer of electricity, water, gas and internet
A week before
- Pack most of the kitchen, leaving only the basics
- Defrost and clean the freezer
- Pack a first-night bag: clothes, chargers, medication, documents
- Photograph the cables behind the TV and computer
On moving day
- Be home when the crew arrives to explain what goes where
- Keep documents, jewelry and cash with you
- Walk through every room, closet and storage space before locking up
- At the new home, show the crew where each room is
