Moving at the end of the month or before the holidays: how to get your date
When movers are busiest, how far ahead to book, and what to do when your date can't change. A short guide to planning a move in the busy periods.
Most rental leases start and end on the first of the month, so the last days of the month are the busiest for moves. Summer and the weeks before the holidays fill up fast too. Plan ahead and you get the date and time you want.
When it's busiest
- The last days of the month and the first day of the next
- July and August, before the school year starts
- The weeks before Rosh Hashanah and before Passover
- Fridays, when the working day is shorter
How far ahead to book
- End of the month and summer: two to three weeks ahead
- Before the holidays: three weeks to a month ahead
- Mid-month and midweek: a few days is usually enough
- A move with a crane: book earlier, since the crane needs scheduling too
When your date can't change
- Send us details and a short video as soon as you know the date, even if not everything is decided
- Ask for an early morning start, so you finish the same day
- Pack as much as you can in advance, so the move itself is shorter
- Arrange the elevator and parking at both homes a few days before
How flexibility helps
If the move can shift by a day or two, say so in your first message. Mid-month and midweek there's more availability, and it's easier to find a time that suits you.
Moving between leases
When the old lease ends the same day the new one starts, there's no room for delays. Ask your landlord whether you can get the keys to the new place a day early and move some things over in advance.
Already know your date? Send us both addresses, the date and a short video of your home on WhatsApp, and we'll hold a spot for you.
